Our Intent
At Parrett and Axe CE VA Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every pupil receives high-quality teaching in English from the moment they join us until the day they leave. Our approach combines a rigorous and effective phonics programme with a rich, immersive, topic-based curriculum to foster a love of language and communication.

Reading
Our intent is for all pupils to become confident, fluent, and enthusiastic readers who read widely and with understanding. We achieve this through high-quality guided reading sessions, exposure to a diverse selection of fiction and non-fiction texts, and the promotion of a strong culture of reading across the school.

Writing
We are dedicated to developing pupils’ writing skills progressively, building knowledge and confidence year on year. Through our topic-based curriculum, children write with depth and purpose across a range of subjects and genres, while also expanding their vocabulary and refining their style. We provide meaningful and enriching opportunities for writing, ensuring every child has a real-life purpose for their work. Regardless of starting points, we aim for all pupils to leave our school as skilled, confident communicators, fully prepared for the next stage of their education.
