PE & Sports Premium
Physical Education (PE)
At Parrett & Axe, we believe PE is an essential part of every child’s education. Through a broad and balanced curriculum, we aim to help pupils develop not only physical skills but also teamwork, confidence, and a lifelong love of movement.
Our Approach
-
Curriculum PE: All pupils take part in weekly PE lessons covering a range of sports, games, dance, gymnastics, and athletics.
-
Specialist Coaches: To enrich our provision, we work with qualified external coaches who bring specialist knowledge and expertise. This allows children to experience a variety of sports and learn new skills in an engaging way.
-
Staff Collaboration: Our teachers work alongside coaches to ensure that sessions are tailored to meet the needs of every pupil and build progression across year groups.
-
Inclusive for All: Every child is encouraged to participate and succeed, regardless of ability or experience.
Opportunities Beyond Lessons
-
Clubs & Enrichment: We offer a range of after-school sports clubs run by our coaches and staff.
-
Competitions & Festivals: Children are given the chance to represent the school in local sporting events, fostering teamwork, resilience, and school spirit.
-
Healthy Lifestyle: Through PE and sport, we promote the importance of staying active and making healthy choices.
PE Lessons
- KS1 PE lessons: Thursdays
-
KS2 PE lessons: Tuesdays
On these days, pupils should attend school in their full PE kit.
Sports Premium Grant
At Parrett & Axe, we are committed to ensuring that every pupil has access to high-quality Physical Education, school sport and opportunities for physical activity. The PE and Sports Premium Grant is additional funding provided by the Government to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision in primary schools.
Purpose of the Funding
The PE and Sports Premium must be used to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE, physical activity and sport across the school. At Parrett & Axe, we use the funding to:
-
Develop staff expertise through training and professional development, ensuring high-quality teaching of PE across the curriculum.
-
Work with specialist coaches to provide pupils with expert teaching and access to a wider range of sports.
-
Increase participation in extracurricular clubs and sporting competitions.
-
Promote physical activity and healthy lifestyles for all pupils, encouraging lifelong habits that support well-being.
-
Improve resources and equipment to enhance the delivery of PE and active playtimes.
Accountability and Impact
Schools are required to publish details of how the Sports Premium is spent and the impact it has on pupils’ physical activity and sport participation. At Parrett & Axe, we evaluate our provision regularly to ensure the funding:
-
raises the profile of PE and sport across the school;
-
engages all pupils in regular physical activity;
-
develops confidence, resilience and social skills through competitive sport and teamwork;
-
has a lasting impact by building staff expertise and sustainable practices.
Annual Reports
Each year, we publish a breakdown of our Sports Premium spending and an evaluation of the impact on pupils. You can read our latest report here.
