Our Intent
At Parrett and Axe CE VA Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every pupil receives high-quality mathematics teaching from the moment they join us until the day they leave. Our mastery-based mathematics curriculum is designed to develop a deep, secure understanding of mathematical concepts, enabling all children to achieve success.
We place a strong emphasis on problem-solving, reasoning, and investigative learning, underpinned by the concrete–pictorial–abstract (CPA) approach to ensure progression and depth at every stage. Lessons are carefully structured to build on prior knowledge, foster relational understanding, and promote resilience, curiosity, and confidence in mathematics.
Our aim is for all pupils to become fluent, flexible mathematicians who can independently apply their skills in a wide range of contexts, equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to make excellent progress both at secondary school and beyond.
