Fossil Festival 2025

Pupils from Lulworth Class recently enjoyed an exciting school trip to Lyme Regis to take part in the annual Fossil Festival. The event, held on the world-famous Jurassic Coast, gave children the chance to discover more about fossils, dinosaurs, and the incredible history hidden in our local rocks.

The day began with a walk along the beach, where pupils had the opportunity to see where Mary Anning once made her groundbreaking fossil discoveries. They learned about the geology of the cliffs and how the shifting coastline continues to reveal new finds today.

Inside the festival tents, children took part in a range of hands-on workshops and activities run by scientists, geologists, and local experts. Highlights included handling real fossils, trying their hand at excavation, and even speaking with palaeontologists about their research.
