At Parrett & Axe CE Primary School, we are proud to be part of the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme (SFVS). This national initiative, run by the NHS, provides children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 with a free piece of fruit or vegetable each school day.
What the Scheme Provides
The scheme offers a wide variety of fresh produce including:
-
Bananas
-
Apples and pears
-
Carrots and tomatoes
-
Satsumas and other seasonal fruits
The selection changes regularly to encourage children to try different fruits and vegetables and to promote healthy eating habits from an early age.
Why It Matters
-
Encourages children to enjoy healthy snacks as part of a balanced diet.
-
Provides one of their recommended 5-a-day portions of fruit and vegetables.
-
Supports our work in promoting healthy lifestyles and wellbeing across the school.
Extending Healthy Habits
We encourage all children, including those in Key Stage 2, to bring fruit or vegetables for their breaktime snack, so that healthy eating becomes a consistent part of their daily routine.
