At Parrett and Axe, the welfare of every child is our highest priority. We are committed to working in partnership with parents and carers and will, wherever possible, discuss any concerns we may have about a child directly with them. However, there may be circumstances in which we are legally required to share information or seek advice from external agencies—such as Local Authority Social Care and Health Departments—prior to contacting parents or carers. This obligation is in accordance with the Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole Inter-Agency Child Protection Procedures.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding refers to the measures taken to protect children and promote their welfare. It includes:
-
Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment.
-
Preventing impairment of children’s health or development.
-
Ensuring children grow up in safe and effective care.
-
Taking action to ensure that all children and young people achieve the best possible outcomes.
Safeguarding guidance and legislation apply to all children and young people under the age of 18.
Child Protection
Child Protection is a specific element of safeguarding, focused on protecting individual children who are suffering, or are at risk of suffering, significant harm.
At Parrett and Axe, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children through:
-
Establishing and maintaining an environment in which staff and volunteers feel safe, are encouraged to raise concerns, and are confident that those concerns will be listened to and acted upon.
-
Ensuring all children know there are trusted adults in school whom they can approach if they feel worried or unsafe.
-
Supporting children with additional or unmet needs, which may include referrals to Early Help or specialist services for children identified as at risk.
-
Embedding safeguarding, including online safety, within a broad and balanced curriculum.
-
Promoting a whole-school culture where safeguarding is recognised as everyone’s responsibility, and staff act at all times in the best interests of the child.
If you have concerns about the safety or well-being of any child at our school, please contact the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), Simon Smith or Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead (DDSL), Fiona Nash immediately.
